Daniel's story

Meet Daniel

Daniel has fought his whole life.

As a child, he had to find his way in a world that did not always understand him. In primary school, he was told that he would never be able to pass his exams.

But they did not know Daniel.

He kept going. He passed his exams, earned a bachelor’s degree from DTU and travelled to China to pursue a master’s degree in neuroscience – the study of the brain.

He had only one month left of his degree before he was due to return home to Denmark.

Ducks for Daniel

Why a rubber duck?

The little yellow duck you are holding did not end up here by accident. It carries the story of Daniel – a young Dane who is now fighting the greatest battle of his life far from home.

Before the accident, Daniel was about to complete his master’s degree in neuroscience in China. He had talked about buying lots of small rubber ducks and leaving them around SDC and elsewhere as his own slightly unusual way of saying goodbye to China.

Daniel never had the chance to carry out the idea himself.

So his family decided to do it for him.

Daniel’s ducks are now being placed in Denmark, China and other places around the world. Every duck leads back to this website, where people can get to know Daniel, follow his journey and help carry his story forward.

The accident

The accident

Shortly before he was due to return home, Daniel was seriously injured in a traffic accident in China. He suffered severe injuries and was admitted to intensive care.

His family travelled to China to be close to him, but they were only able to see him for brief moments when he was taken for examinations. They could not sit by his side, hold his hand or tell him that he was not alone.

His family now wants to bring Daniel safely home to Denmark, where he can be surrounded by people he knows and understands.

The journey home

The journey home

Daniel had taken out Danish travel insurance for the longest possible period of two years. Because his studies were extended slightly, the insurance expired just two weeks before the accident.

His Chinese health insurance covers parts of his treatment in China, but not the specialised medical transport to Denmark.

His family cannot finance the journey home alone. That is why the fundraiser was started.

The fundraiser has been approved by the Danish Fundraising Board (Indsamlingsnævnet).

Stand with Daniel

Help in the way that is right for you

If you are able to contribute, you will be helping the family in their effort to bring Daniel home.

If you are not able to support financially, sharing his story also means a great deal. Every person who finds a duck, visits the website or tells someone else about Daniel helps his story travel further.

Keep the duck, pass it on, or place it somewhere new for another person to find.

In this way, Daniel’s idea continues – one little yellow duck at a time.

Follow Daniel’s journey. Share his story. Help us bring our strong Viking home. ❤️
